What happens during an Appointment

On Arrival

Please enter our reception area, ensuring you keep your pet under control (other pets may be in the waiting room). We are pretty good at sticking to the appointment schedule, so please try to be on time. Please help yourself to a complimentary drink when you arrive.

First Visit

At the start of your first visit the Hydrotherapist will assess your pet before commencing any hydrotherapy, this will be the case even for fun sessions. The assessment will consist of some basic measurements (weight, muscle bulk), lameness scores, gait analysis, head to tail assessment.

Pool Session

Your dog will enter the pool by the ramp, helped by the therapist and owner if appropriate, the therapist will then commence the session continually monitoring the pet and resting them at regular and appropriate intervals, either on the resting platform or in the therapist's arms. If Aquatic Massage is being undertaken, this will be done at the start of the session. When appropriate carefully selected toys will be used to encourage your pet. Initially the swim time will be short and will build week on week as appropriate for each individual pet. Your pet will exit the pool, helped by the therapist via the ramp.

Treadmill Session

Your dog will enter the treadmill via the inbuilt ramp, helped by the therapist and owner if appropriate, when appropriate the therapist will be in the treadmill with the dog. Before the treadmill is filled with water the therapist will determine how the dog reacts to the moving belt, if your dog is fine then water will be added to the appropriate depth and the session commences. The therapist will continually monitor the pet and rest them at regular and appropriate intervals. The session is carried out in various timed sets, gradually building week on week as appropriate for each individual pet. At the end of the session the water will be emptied, giving your dog a short time to rest prior to exiting the treadmill via the inbuilt ramp.

Showering Off

At the end of the session your pet will be showered off, to wash off the pool/treadmill water, which is sanitized like a human swimming pool, if requested we can use a mild shampoo at this stage, although it is not essential. Following the shower your pet will be either towelled off or partially dried using the dog blaster. We recommend you bring a drying coat to keep your dog warm during the journey home.
